Buglasan Cheerdance Competition 2009 (Tanjay City)

This year’s Buglasan Cheerdance Champion is from the contingent of Dumaguete City. It is being represented by Silliman University’s College of Computer Studies Cheerdance Team. They also bagged the Best in Costume Award. 2nd place goes to Tanjay City, while the 3rd goes to Valencia.

A scene from ‘Sandugo Oracles,’ the re-enactment of the blood compact between Boholano datu Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1565, which laid the groundwork for Spain’s colonial rule over the Philippines. In this scene, Spanish members of Legazpi’s crew introduce western textiles and tools to the Filipinos.

I hope this year’s Buglasan Showdown will feature original movements in dances. Example, the “stone” men of Mabinay’s langub showed modern dance movements. Kimaw ug balikwaot kaayo… and many others. Costumes are too lavish…
